150 Songs

Have you ever been in the car when that song came on? You know which one. The one that you know by heart; the one that takes you back to a that place in time you remember so well. It is almost like you can smell the air, see the surroundings. Every time I hear “Unforgettable” I go back to the moment that I took steps down an aisle in my home church, moving towards my amazing, soon to be husband. I can see the sanctuary, feel my daddy’s arm holding tight to mine. Even as I type this, the tears of joy and remembrance well up.

Songs pull at our hearts in ways that other things do not.

They expressing feelings, emotions or memories in a way that reminds us of times past.  The book of Psalms is filled with 150 beautifully written reminders of who we were, where we have been and who God wants us to be, in a poetic form.  Like all other scripture, they are inspired and given to us by God himself.  They are holy; given to us by a holy God who desires that same holiness for us.

As you take time to get into the Word of God this week, I would encourage you to take a look at the Psalms.  Read through them, pray through them and ask our Lord to guide your heart towards Him and His holiness.

Sing God a brand-new song!
Earth and everyone in it, sing!
Sing to God – worship God!

Shout the news of his victory from sea to sea,
Take the news of his glory to the lost,
News of his wonders to one and all!

For God is great, and worth a thousand Hallelujahs.

Psalm 96:1-4
