The Joy of the Lord is Your Strength

On vacation I was lazy. I didn’t do my therapy exercises. I was too busy sitting, feeling the ocean breeze, and reading my book. When I arrived home my flower bed looked like the amazon jungle. The next day I headed out early. My garden cart was filled with all the necessities and I began hacking away. You know where this is going right? I was careful, but over zealous. Because I had been lazy in keeping up my strength, my back rebelled angrily. I was reminded that strength was vital to staying well.

Nehemiah reminds the people of Israel, in chapter 8 vs. 10, that the joy of the Lord is their strength. Here this today: “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” As you come and go, may God’s joy give you strength. Don’t allow yourself to get our of shape, by neglecting time in the word and in prayer, instead spend time with our Lord. Through this routine you will find joy in Him and when you are hurting, lost, broken, angry, remember that His joy is your strength. May it be so today.

PS – My back is doing great!
