Love the Little Children

When I was in first grade I had a teacher name Mrs. Ennis. She has long since gone to meet Jesus, but she left behind a great mark on my heart and life. As I learned to read, Mrs. Ennis would let me walk over to her house, and pick out any book that I wanted to borrow. She didn’t have to spend hours with a chatty kid, letting her rummage through her shelves and read books, but she did. Why? Because just as Jesus did, Mrs. Ennis, love little children.

When everyone else wanted to send the little ones away from Jesus. Jesus didn’t just stop them, he reprimanded them! “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). What an example for us. In all honesty, you might be the next Mrs. Ennis or more impact-fully, Jesus, to a little one. This is why we hold, play with, sing to, teach, the infants and toddlers in our nursery each Sunday. This is why Wee Worship (3 yrs old – K) teachers are so vital to our early learners. This is why we actively and creatively teach our active Children’s Church kids (1st-5th grades).

Take a moment today and ask yourself…am I being a Mrs. Ennis, am I being a Jesus to a child in my life? Is there a way I can serve, I can love, I can commit in more powerful ways to the kids at TCNaz, in my family, and in community?
