Invitation: “You want to go with me?”

We sat at a round table in the cafeteria at MVNU. We had only been there a few days and I had already become really intrigued by this Jesus loving, baseball playing, education major. We had spent some time chatting. That day the conversation went something like this:
Him: “I think I am going to go look for a couch at the thrift store today.”
Me: “Really, I have never been to a thrift store before.”
Him (Inner Voice): “She wants you to invite her… No ,she doesn’t…. Yes, she does! That’s why she asked.”
Him: “You want to go with me?”
Me: “Sure!”
That simple invitation led to another and another. Soon, too soon, in my dad’s opinion, we were sending out invitations of our own, wedding invitations that is.
In the Parable of the Great Feast (Luke 14), Jesus makes it very clear that all are invited. Those who are the smallest to the greatest are welcome at Jesus’ side. Today, if you are felling lost, lonely, hurt, insignificant, remember that the uninvited become honored guests at the Kingdom table.
