When the Stress Is On the Rise

“When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say just breathe. Come and rest at my feet and be, just be. Chaos calls but all you really need is to just breathe” – Breathe by Jonny Diaz

I love my job and you’ll hear me say that often, however today, task after task continues to pile up on my plate at it was overwhelming. I felt as though I couldn’t keep up with the growing itemized checklist before me. The jobs I needed to accomplish were spread out amongst three different documents and I could feel the tension in my neck grow tighter and tighter as I flipped from one page to another. When I finished running from one end of the church building to the other end several times in a matter of minutes, I stopped at my desk and took a moment to recall the lyrics written above… “Breathe, just breathe. Come and rest at my feet.”

Psalm 4:8 reads, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Whatever is on your checklist today, whatever chaos may be pulling you in a thousand different directions, whatever stress is overwhelming your soul right now, be sure to make time to rest in the presence of God. Dwell in the comfort of the arms of the Father.
