Good Gifts

My father just celebrated his 67th birthday. He is still a young man, I know. There have been so many ways that my earthly father has taught me about the heavenly father, but one of the most impactful is his radically generous nature. My dad loves to give good gifts. I remember graduating from college. Chad and I had married before I was finished and I had, what seemed to me, like a million dollars in school debt. I think it was closer to $2,500. For my graduation gift, my dad and mom paid my debt in full!
Jesus speaks of good gifts in the Sermon on the Mount. “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11) This passage begins with a generous offer from Christ, ask and receive, seek and find, knock and watch the door open! No, Jesus is not a genie in a lamp or a wishing well waiting for a coin, he is however waiting for you to seek him, ask him to do big things in alignment with His will, and knock so that doors will be opened. What my radically generous father taught me, is what he learned from a radically generous God! Remember today the generosity of God and don’t forget to ask, seek, and knock so that His will may be made known to you today.
