Where Does Your Treasure Truly Lie?

Sunday night I got the call that we all dread; “Rachel, Joel and I have been in an accident.” Chad’s voice was shaky and I could tell he was shaken up. My heart started racing as I waited for his next words; “Joel and I are ok.” Relief swept over me. It doesn’t matter that the van is a total loss or that we had to make trips to retrieve items later that week; all that now pales in importance. What matters most is that they are ok.
In the sermon on the mount Jesus included a very interesting and important command: “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
It is easy to become sidetracked by the stuff in our lives. We store up. Hoard. Flaunt. But all for what? Ask yourself today, where does your treasure truly lie? Now, how can you make intentional steps to invest in what truly matters this week?
